If you don’t already have a salon website, that is a good place to start!

But just developing a website is not enough.

What most salon professionals don’t understand is Google will not rank your website in the search results unless it is optimized properly through a process called Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

And if your website is not ranked in Google search, it is basically worthless as a tool for attracting new clients.

Search Engine Optimization is the process of improving the visibility of a website on organic (“natural” or un-paid) search engine result pages (SERPs), by incorporating search engine friendly elements into a website. A successful search engine optimization campaign will have, as part of the improvements, carefully select, relevant, keywords which the on-page optimization will be designed to make prominent for search engine algorithms. Search engine optimization is broken down into two basic areas: on-page, and off-page optimization. On-page optimization refers to website elements which comprise a web page, such as HTML code, textual content, and images. Off-page optimization refers, predominantly, to backlinks (links pointing to the site which is being optimized, from other relevant websites).

Promotional videos allow you to put your best foot forward in a personal way. Clients can see your stylists in action, check out the salon environment, and learn what sets your salon apart from the competition.

Videos built trust, and have an amazing conversion rate. If you finish your video with a strong call to action, it is a guaranteed asset to acquire new clients.

But again, it is not enough to just create a video, and post it on YouTube. You need to optimize the video so it also ranks in Google search, and gets seen by anyone looking for a new salon in your city.

Directory Profiles: The Secret Weapon of Your Salon Marketing

Directory profiles usually work behind the scenes, building online credibility for your salon.

A directory profile is any website that will allow you to put your salon information on them. The most popular directory profiles would be: Yelp, YP, Google+, Facebook, Manta, and many more.

These are sites that build authority for your online reputation. They are a place where clients can post positive reviews for your salon. Potential clients will often times visit these sites when trying to decide which salon to choose.

They are also a place that validates your business information, which builds overall trust in Google’s eyes, helping your website ranking.

Typically, if you create 40-50 directory profiles for your salon on the big sites, salon specific sites, and local sites, you will be head and shoulders above your competition.
